7-8 septembre, King’s Canyon et Sequoia National Park
We stayed in Sequoia National Park, and did not see much of
King’s Canyon. We had reserved our site by internet and if we had it to do
again, or if any of you visit this park, we would stay in King’s Canyon first
and then move to Sequoia National Park.
Our site at Sequoia was at 6000 feet altitude and was situated near a
canyon. You will see that from the pictures.
More big trees!/Encore des gros arbres! This is General
Sherman, a VERY large sequoia tree. Other trees exist in the world that are
wider or taller, but no other tree has the volume of General Sherman.
The we hiked up Moro Rock. Over 400 steps to get up, but
what a view!
Ensuite nous avons monté Moro Rock. Plus de 400
marches pour monter, mais quelle belle vue!!
Then, the big adventures of our day really started! We were
hiking in the forest, when Katrine saw something black moving through the trees.
It was a black bear! We were all alone and frankly, it was quite frightening.
We stood there for a while and watched as the bear moved through the trees,
away from us. We made lots of noise as
we continued on our path after that. Apparently, other tourists saw the bear in
a meadow shortly thereafter. But wait, our adventure wasn’t finished! About 15
minutes after seeing the bear, we heard a loud crack and turned around to watch
a tree come tumbling down before our eyes! Not a giant sequoia tree, but still
a big tree! It didn’t fall in our direction, not to worry. That was pretty much
enough excitement for one day, so we got out of the woods! Here is Nick with
the fallen tree.
And now, on to Las Vegas!! Et maintenant, nous
partons pour Las Vegas!!
