For Spring Break, we went to Tante Nicole's cottage in Saint-Sauveur. Nick and William arrived Wednesday night, Katrine came by train after work on Friday, and Renaud and his family were there for most of the week.

Thursday morning, William, Renaud and Nicolas went skiing at Mont Tremblant. We found a parking spot so close to the ski hill that we could have skied directly into the trunk of the car!

We had a wonderful day: light snow, not too cold and not too many people. William was tired at the end of his day (Nick too!)

Thursday night, back at the cottage, we all went out tobogganing at night with headlamps! We also did more tobogganing during the day on Friday, which was a beautiful, sunny day! Here is Alexandra on her toboggan!

Then we went and built another slide, further from the cottage. This one started even higher up the hill! As you can see, it wasn't too cold. Here's William sliding down, wind in his hair!

Voici Natacha, notre vedette de cinéma...

Here's Natacha, the movie star!

Jérome, having a great time!

Même les grands aiment glisser: voici Colargol!

Even the adults like to go sledding! Here's Renaud!

On Saturday, the adults did some snowshoeing in the woods, around the lake.

It was so nice outside that we ate lunch outdoors, to take advantage of the sun!

All in all, a great Spring Break in good company!

Weekend en Ontario

We went to visit friends and family in Ontario. First stop: Natasha and Scott's house in Kingston, where we stayed over on the Friday night and got to spend time with Finn and Aida in the morning over breakfast. Finn and Auntie Kat played a lovely pretend boating game! As always, it was wonderful to see our friends!

Voici Aida, six mois! Here's Aida, six months old!

And here are Auntie Kat and Finn, who is three years old.

Then, on to Toronto to see Nat and brand-new baby Abbie, who we hadn't met officially yet! Kat was VERY excited to meet her new niece!

Abbie looks pretty comfortable with Uncle Nick!

She looks a lot like her mommy when she was a baby...

Three generations together...

Nana is a very proud great-grandmother!! And Abbie performed very well for Nana. We told her it was very important!

Une arrière-grandmaman fière!!

Lots of time on the road this weekend, but we got to see so many people and we had such a wonderful time. It was worth the driving!

We spent a week-end in the Eastern Townships. We started with an afternoon of skating on a 2.5 km-long path along lake Memphremagog. It was pretty windy!

It was Winter Festival in Magog. We took advantage of this to have some hot chocolate and maple taffy on snow, tobogganing and wall climbing.

Then we went to our hotel, l'Estrimont. A few hours in the thermal bath and the Yurt, and we were very relaxed. Finally a nice meal followed by a chocolate fondue and a good night's sleep and we were ready for the next day.

After breakfast served in our room, we went snowshoeing on Mount Orford. The Chouette trail allowed us to admire a beautiful panorama overlooking l'Étang aux Cerises.

Hiver 2013

This winter, we took advantage of the abundant snow to take part in some of our favourite outdoor winter activities: skating, skiing and snowshoeing.

We went skating on the Rideau Canal with Philippe during Winterlude.

As he has done in the past, William took ski lessons at Mont Habitant. So we went along too! Nick and Renaud went several times and Katrine went once too.

Here are some photos following a huge snowstorm in Saint-Lazare. The snow was so wet and heavy that it weighed down the branches on the trees,  causing a power failure that lasted almost 24 hours.

Ouf!

September 26th - Lansing, Michigan. After a good night's sleep in Lansing, Michigan, we made our way over the border into Toronto. We stopped in to see Katrine's Nana and aunt, and then stayed the night at Katrine's sister Natalie's house. Nat and Simon are doing renovations on their new house and were gracious enough to let us stay there anyway, in a real bed after such a long time in the van!

September 27th - the voyage home. A bit of traffic leaving Toronto, and then we made our way to Kingston to stop in and see Katrine's friend Natasha and her new baby Aida. Then we continued on the see William at his mother's house (Nick had missed him and couldn't wait to give him a hug!!) and then drove him, safe and sound after 15 000 km!

22-25 septembre, 2012: Myre Big Island, Minnesota, Rock cut et Chicago, Illinois

22 septembre, 2012 – Myre Big Island State Park, Minnesota

This was a travel day. We arrived before supper and had time to walk around and take in the beauty of the park. It is cold here in Minnesota! Fall is setting in…

23 septembre, 2012 – Rock Cut State Park, Iliinois

Another travel day. Tonight, we scored our lowest price ever for a campground (12$, the most « popular » site right on the lake, and proximity to showers – a real bargain!). We are one hour away from Chicago.

Life on the road/ La vie sur la route :

24-25 septembre, 2012 – Chicago, Illinois

Here we are in our last big U.S. city on our trip! Chicago is HUGE and hard to explore in only one day, so we only saw a small portion. We parked our vehicle and took a short bus ride into the city, stopping first at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park.

Then we went to see Cloud Gate, a sculpture made of 168 plates of stainless steel fused together and polished. It was fun to see our reflection in the sculpture. Here is the reflection of the city’s skyline :

We made sure to eat a hot dog and Nicolas even ate his Chicago-style, with all sorts of condiments that we Montrealers wouldn’t put on a hot dog. They had a sign that said it was considered offensive to put ketchup on a hot dog in Chicago (Katrine ate it with ketchup anyway!).

Then we went to Navy Pier, which offers many types of amusement (ferris wheel, food, shops, etc.). We took a short cruise on Lake Michigan to learn a bit more about the city and its architecture, as well as to see the skyline.

Named for its tall structures and upscale stores, the Magnificent Mile area of Michigan Avenue was a fun place to visit.

After visiting a few shops in the Water Tower area, we went to Pizzeria Due, known for its Chicago-style deep dish pizzas.

The next day, we visited the Museum of Science and Industry. Among the exhibits we particularly liked were the U-505 German submarine captured during World War II. The capture of this boat helped the Americans learn about the technology of the Germans and also decipher their submarine codes using ENIGMA machines, created for this purpose. We also enjoyed Science Storms, which was about tornadoes, tsunamis, avalanches and other powerful forces of nature.

We left Chicago for our destination for tonight, Cottonwood Campground in Lansing, Michigan.
